Basic Boxing Punches

On Thursday at my first boxing class, I only just began practicing my punches, focusing instead on strength and conditioning. The punches I was first taught were the jabs and the right cross, simple, yet important, punches. Ed, one of the teachers, stressed the importance of perfecting these punches, as mastering these punches can prove very useful in a match. In this post, I will be explaining these basic punches, the jab and the right cross. Learning these punches and continuing to practice them even as an expert boxer is vital.

The Jab
Move your left hand forward from your original position, aiming at your opponent's head. Return to your stance.
When to Use It:
As a "foundation" to your matches; also use it on opponents' body to draw their hands downward and leave their faces and necks vulnerable to attack
How to Respond if You See a Jab Coming:
A Right Cross

Right Cross
Starting with your hands vertically in front of your face, turn your right hand as you extend your arm. Strike, then return to your original position.
When to Use It:
Aim at your opponents' jaws to disorient them

  1. OT: These are two of the all time greatest fighters. I think everyone would love a rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Question guys,is it
really possible? Even though Pacquiao is now recuperating from a shoulder injured surgery, there is still a possibility for a Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 rematch.
